How connecting with an advocate works

Five simple steps. Nothing is payable to send a request.

Tell us the problemFill the short form in your own words. Not sure if it is civil or criminal? Choose "Not sure".
We check the right forumThe practice area and court decide who can take it, so the request goes to advocates who actually handle such matters there.

Which practice area is my problem?

Choosing the right area is the most common reason a request reaches the right advocate quickly.

Practice areaWhat it usually covers

Before you engage an advocate

  • Check the enrolment number and State Bar Council on the profile.
  • Carry every document, including the ones that seem to hurt your case.
  • Ask: likely timeline, total fee, court fee and other expenses, and what happens if the matter settles early.
  • Agree the advocate's fee and scope in writing and pay the advocate directly against a proper receipt. Mara Vakil charges clients nothing to find or consult advocates.
  • Never pay anyone who promises a guaranteed result or "settings" with the court.

You may be entitled to a free lawyer

  • Women, children, SC/ST members, industrial workers, persons with disability, persons in custody and people below the income limit can get free legal aid (Section 12, Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987).
  • Call NALSA at 15100 or visit your District Legal Services Authority at the district court.
  • Lok Adalats settle many disputes without court fee.

Questions clients ask

Do I have to pay to book?

No. Booking is free and no payment is taken on this website. A team member calls you, explains the work and the total cost, and work starts only after you agree.

Who does the work?

Documentation, applications and filing are handled by the Mara Vakil team. Work that needs an advocate, such as a petition, legal notice or court appearance, is done by an independent enrolled advocate.

How soon will someone call me?

Orders are picked up by our team during working hours, usually the same day. You can track your order online with your order ID.

How do I share my documents?

After the call, the person handling your order tells you how to share copies. Please do not send original documents unless asked.

Can I cancel an order?

Yes. Tell the team member handling your order. Since no advance payment is taken at booking, there is nothing to refund at that stage.

Is Mara Vakil a law firm?

No. Mara Vakil is a technology platform. It does not give legal advice or represent anyone in court.

Track an order

Enter the order ID you received after booking and your mobile number.

Not sure which service you need?

Describe your problem and an independent advocate will call you back. It is free for clients.

Mara Vakil is a technology platform, not a law firm, and does not give legal advice. Documentation services are provided by the Mara Vakil team. Any work that requires an advocate is carried out by an independent advocate enrolled with a State Bar Council, who is solely responsible for it. Timelines shown are typical and depend on government offices and courts. Government fees, stamp duty and newspaper charges, where applicable, are confirmed with you before work starts.
