Lawyers in Bangalore

Bangalore's legal problems are shaped by its growth: farmland turned into layouts, layouts into apartments, and records that did not always keep up, alongside start-up, technology and employment disputes. The city has a City Civil Court that hears suits of any value, Metropolitan Magistrates, family and commercial courts, the principal seat of the High Court of Karnataka and benches of national tribunals. This guide explains the courts, khata and land records, renting, family and police matters, legal aid and fees in plain words. When you are ready, describe your matter in the form and an enrolment-verified advocate in Bangalore who handles it can call you. It is free for clients.

Lawyers in Bangalore: what you need to know first

  • One civil court handles suits of any size. The City Civil Court in Bengaluru tries civil suits whatever their value, because the Karnataka High Court has no ordinary original civil side. Appeals and writ petitions go to the High Court opposite Vidhana Soudha.
  • Criminal cases start before the Metropolitan Magistrates. Serious offences move up to the Sessions Courts, which sit with the City Civil Court.
  • Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural and Bengaluru South are three different districts. A plot in Devanahalli or a site near Kanakapura is not a city court matter, even if the address says "Bangalore".
  • Most property trouble here is about records. Khata (now e-Khata), RTC extracts, land conversion, layout approval and occupancy certificates decide whether a property is safe to buy, sell or mortgage.
  • The civic body changed in 2025. The BBMP was replaced by the Greater Bengaluru Authority and five city corporations, so many notices and khata matters now come from a new office.
  • Advocates are enrolled with the Bar Council of Karnataka, and their enrolment numbers usually begin with "KAR/".
  • Using Mara Vakil costs you nothing. Tell us your problem in the form on this page. Checked advocates in and around Bengaluru who take that kind of work see it first, with your number hidden, and the one who takes it up calls you.

How the legal system in Bangalore is laid out

Bangalore's courts grew with the city. A sleepy cantonment and a separate old town became one capital, then a technology centre of more than a crore people, and the court system was stretched to match. Today the city has a City Civil Court with a large number of judges, Metropolitan Magistrates' courts spread across several complexes, a Court of Small Causes, family courts, commercial courts, special courts for particular laws, and the principal seat of the High Court of Karnataka. National bodies such as the National Company Law Tribunal, the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal and the Central Administrative Tribunal have benches here, and the state's own tribunals for land revenue, service matters and real estate sit in the city too.

What makes Bangalore different from Delhi or Mumbai is the kind of work that fills these courts. A huge share of cases involve land and buildings on the edge of a city that doubled in size within a generation: farmland turned into layouts, layouts turned into apartments, and records that did not always keep up. Disputes over khata, conversion orders, lake and drain encroachments, joint development agreements and incomplete apartment projects are everyday work for Bengaluru advocates. The second big stream comes from the economy: start-up and investor disputes, employment cases from the technology sector, software and service contracts, intellectual property, and tax litigation for companies headquartered here. Alongside these run the usual family, criminal, cheque bounce, consumer and tenancy matters that every large city produces.

For a client, the practical lesson is that "a good lawyer in Bangalore" is not one person for every problem. The advocate who knows revenue records and the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal may never appear in the NCLT, and the employment lawyer who advises technology companies may rarely visit a magistrate's court. This guide walks through the courts and offices, the local laws that come up most, and how to pick an advocate who actually practises where your matter belongs.

How to find the right lawyer in Bangalore, step by step

  1. Work out which district you are in. Check the taluk and district on the property papers, the police station on the FIR, or the address of the person you are dealing with. Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural and Bengaluru South each have their own courts.
  2. Name the problem in one line. "Khata not transferred", "builder has not given the deed of declaration", "tenant will not return the deposit", "laid off without full and final settlement". One clear line helps you and the advocate find the right forum quickly.
  3. Find the forum. Land revenue disputes go to the revenue officers and the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal; builder delays to K-RERA or the consumer commission; eviction under the Rent Act to the Court of Small Causes; most civil suits to the City Civil Court; company disputes to the NCLT.
  4. Look for someone who appears there every week. Ask the advocate which courts they attend most and how many matters like yours they have handled recently.
  5. Check the enrolment. Note the KAR number and confirm it with the Bar Council of Karnataka before you sign anything.
  6. Put the arrangement on paper. Agree the scope of work, the expected stages and the fee, keep a copy of the vakalatnama, and ask for receipts for every payment.

Our national guide on how to pick a lawyer in India covers warning signs and the first meeting in more depth, and the talk to an advocate page shows how a call back works.

Courts in Bangalore and what each one hears

Bengaluru Urban district has several court complexes rather than one. Where your case is heard depends on its type, not just on where you live.

CourtUsual work
City Civil Court, Bengaluru (complex on Kempegowda Road)Civil suits of every value: money recovery, injunctions, partition, declarations of title, specific performance. Sessions Courts in the same complex try serious criminal cases and hear criminal appeals and revisions.
Commercial courtsBusiness disputes of ₹3 lakh and above under the Commercial Courts Act, such as supply contracts, software and service agreements, franchise, partnership and IP disputes.
Metropolitan Magistrates (including the Chief and Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrates)Bail in many offences, trials of offences punishable up to seven years, cheque bounce complaints, domestic violence applications and private complaints. Courts sit in more than one complex, including Nrupathunga Road and Mayo Hall.
Court of Small CausesSmaller money claims and eviction petitions under the Karnataka Rent Act. Judges here also sit as motor accident claims tribunals for the city.
Family Courts (complex near Lalbagh main gate)Divorce, maintenance, custody and guardianship, with a mediation centre on the premises.
Special courtsCases under particular laws, such as the courts for elected representatives, the land grabbing special court, POCSO courts and courts for economic offences.
High Court of KarnatakaWrit petitions, regular first appeals from the City Civil Court, criminal appeals, bail after the Sessions Court, quashing petitions and company and arbitration matters.

Because the Karnataka High Court does not try ordinary civil suits itself, a very large claim in Bengaluru starts in the City Civil Court or a commercial court and only reaches the High Court on appeal. A 2023 change to the state's civil courts law also shifted which appeals go to the district court and which go to the High Court, so check the appeal route with your advocate before the limitation period runs out.

Debts Recovery Tribunals, BengaluruBank loan recovery and borrowers' applications against SARFAESI action; appeals lie to the appellate tribunal in Chennai

CESTAT, BengaluruCustoms, central excise and service tax appeals
Central Administrative Tribunal, Bengaluru BenchService disputes of central government employees
Karnataka State Administrative TribunalService disputes of state government employees

Labour Courts and Industrial TribunalsIndustrial disputes, illegal termination, retrenchment and wage claims of workmen
Consumer commissionsSeveral district commissions for Bengaluru Urban, and the Karnataka State Commission

Tribunal practice is a specialisation of its own. An advocate who regularly appears before K-RERA or the NCLT will know the bench's procedures, the forms and the usual timelines far better than a general practitioner.

Apartments, gated communities and owners' associations

A large part of Bengaluru lives in apartment complexes and gated layouts, and their disputes have a character of their own. The questions are less about who owns a flat and more about who controls the common areas, the money and the maintenance.

Disputes inside an association are best settled by meeting, mediation and clear minutes. When that fails, a lawyer who handles apartment and society matters can send a notice, seek records or file the right application.

Buying, selling and protecting property in Bangalore

Property in Bengaluru carries two sets of records. Land outside the old city limits, and much of the land that has been absorbed into the city, has a revenue history in the RTC (pahani) maintained through the Bhoomi system, with mutation entries showing how it changed hands. Once land becomes part of an approved layout or building, the civic body issues a khata for property tax. A safe property usually has both histories in order: clean revenue records, a valid conversion or a planning approval for non-farm use, an approved layout or building plan, and a khata in the seller's name.

Khata, e-Khata and the B-khata problem

A khata is not a title document. It is the civic record of who pays property tax on a property, but banks, buyers and the Sub-Registrar all look at it. Since 2024 the civic body has moved khata records online as e-Khata, and an e-Khata is now required to register most transactions for properties within city limits. Properties that sit in "B-khata" registers, usually because the layout or building did not have full approvals, have long been hard to sell or mortgage. In November 2025 the state opened a scheme to convert eligible B-khata properties to A-khata on payment of a fee linked to the guidance value, after the owner first obtains an e-Khata. Whether a particular property qualifies, and what it will cost, depends on its layout and approvals, so get advice before paying.

Conversion and layout approvals

Agricultural land traditionally needed a conversion order under section 95 of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964 before it could be used for houses or offices. Rules made in 2025 aligned this with planning approvals, so that in approved master plan areas, building or layout sanction can itself count as conversion in specified cases, with online filing and fixed timelines elsewhere. Sites in unapproved "revenue layouts" remain risky. Ask for the conversion order or the planning approval, the approved layout plan from the BDA, BMRDA or the local planning authority, and the release of the site from any mortgage to the authority.

Checks a Bengaluru buyer should not skip

Stamp duty and registration

Sale deeds in Karnataka carry stamp duty on a slab basis, rising to 5% for properties above ₹45 lakh, plus a cess and a surcharge calculated on the duty. The registration fee was raised from 1% to 2% of the value with effect from 31 August 2025. Duty is charged on the higher of the agreed price and the government guidance value. Registration happens at the Sub-Registrar's office, with much of the work done online through Kaveri. Since 2020, the land reforms law no longer stops non-agriculturists from buying farmland, but other restrictions, such as those on granted land, still apply. See the property lawyer in Bangalore guide for disputes.

Renting a house or office in Bangalore

Bengaluru has a famously high security deposit culture. Ten months' rent as an advance has been common for years, and arguments over its return are among the most frequent reasons tenants and owners call lawyers.

Commercial leases for shops, offices and warehouses are usually longer, registered, and carry lock-in periods and escalation clauses. Read the termination and arbitration clauses closely before signing.

Family matters in Bangalore

Divorce, maintenance and custody cases for Bengaluru Urban are heard by the family courts in the complex near Lalbagh's main gate. Each hall hears a long list every day, and the court sends many couples to its mediation centre before taking evidence.

Consumer complaints and jobs in Bangalore

Consumer disputes

Bengaluru Urban has more than one district consumer commission, and the Karnataka State Commission sits in the city. The value of what you paid decides the forum: up to ₹50 lakh at the district commission, above that and up to ₹2 crore at the state commission, and higher claims before the National Commission. Complaints can be filed online on e-Jagriti. Common Bengaluru complaints involve apartment builders, home interiors, online deliveries and apps, private hospitals, insurers, airlines and coaching institutes. For RERA-registered projects, buyers can choose between K-RERA and the consumer commission depending on the relief they want. See the consumer lawyer in Bangalore guide.

Employment and the labour codes

The four labour codes came into force across India on 21 November 2025, replacing many older labour laws. For Bengaluru's workforce this affects wage definitions, gratuity for fixed-term staff, notice and retrenchment rules, and social security for gig and platform workers. Technology employees are often not "workmen" under industrial law, so their remedies usually lie in a civil suit or a claim under their contract rather than the labour court, though wage and gratuity claims have their own authorities.

The labour lawyer in Bangalore guide explains these remedies.

Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural and Bengaluru South: which courts?

The name "Bangalore" now covers three revenue districts, and each sends its cases to different courts. People who bought a site on the airport road or near Bidadi are often surprised to learn that their case will not be heard in the city.

AreaWhere cases usually go
Core city and corporation areas (Bengaluru Urban)City Civil Court, Metropolitan Magistrates, Court of Small Causes and Family Courts in Bengaluru
Anekal taluk, including Electronic City's outer areas, Attibele and ChandapuraCourts at Anekal for many local civil and criminal matters, within Bengaluru Urban district
Devanahalli, Doddaballapur, Hoskote and NelamangalaBengaluru Rural district courts and the taluk courts in these towns
Ramanagara, Kanakapura, Channapatna, Magadi and BidadiCourts of Bengaluru South district, the new name given to Ramanagara district in 2025
Hosur, just across the borderTamil Nadu courts, under the Madras High Court

Jurisdiction depends on the exact survey number, police station or address, and can change when new courts are notified. Appeals and writ petitions from all three Karnataka districts go to the High Court in Bengaluru.

Lakes, drains, demolitions and acquisition

Lake beds and stormwater drains

Bengaluru was once a city of interconnected tanks linked by stormwater channels, known locally as rajakaluves. As the city grew, many were built over. After repeated flooding, the authorities have surveyed drains and lakes and demolished structures found on them. Planning rules also restrict construction within buffer zones around lakes and drains, and these rules have been revised and challenged more than once. Before buying, compare the survey sketch with the village map and the drain survey. If you receive a notice alleging encroachment, reply in time with your documents and survey records; an advocate can seek a fresh survey or challenge an order that ignores your evidence.

Land acquisition

Authorities such as the BDA, KIADB and the National Highways Authority acquire land for layouts, industrial areas, ring roads and metro lines. Owners have rights to notice, objections and fair compensation, and they can seek a higher amount through the reference court. Long-running disputes, such as those over some BDA layouts, often turn on whether land was properly notified and whether compensation or alternative sites were given.

Land grabbing and granted land

Karnataka has a law against land grabbing with a special court to try such cases, and a separate law protecting land granted to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families from transfer without permission. Both come up often on the city's edges, where old farmland is now valuable.

How a complaint against a builder usually moves in Bangalore

  1. Collect the paper trail. Agreement for sale, construction agreement, payment receipts, emails, brochures and the K-RERA registration page for the project.
  2. Send a notice. A lawyer's notice setting out the delay or defects and the relief you want often brings the builder to the table.
  3. Choose the forum. K-RERA for interest on delay, refund or completion of a registered project; the consumer commission for compensation for deficient service; the civil court for title or specific performance issues.
  4. Hearing and order. K-RERA hears both sides, often in a few sittings, and passes orders for interest or refund.
  5. Recovery. If the builder does not pay, the order can be enforced, including by recovery as arrears of land revenue through the revenue authorities.
  6. Appeal. Either side can appeal to the Real Estate Appellate Tribunal, and then to the High Court on questions of law.

Buyers in projects that were never registered with K-RERA, or that were completed before the real estate law came in, may have to use the consumer commission or civil court instead.

Court holidays and vacations in Karnataka

The High Court of Karnataka has a summer vacation, usually in May, and breaks around Dasara and Christmas. During these periods, vacation judges take up urgent cases such as bail, stays and interim protection. The city's trial courts follow their own calendar with shorter breaks. If your limitation period is about to end during a vacation, speak to your advocate early so the matter can be filed or mentioned in time.

Areas of law where Bangalore leads

Start-ups and venture funding

Bengaluru is home to a large share of India's start-ups, so term sheets, shareholder agreements, employee stock option plans, founder exits and down-round disputes are daily work for the city's corporate lawyers. Many of these documents choose arbitration and sometimes a seat outside India, which shapes where a dispute is finally decided.

Technology contracts and data

Software licences, cloud and outsourcing agreements, and service level disputes are common. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, with rules notified in 2025 and phased in over time, is pushing companies to rewrite privacy notices, consent flows and breach procedures.

Intellectual property

Product companies and research centres protect patents, software copyright, trade secrets and brands. Trade secret and confidentiality cases often arise when employees move to competitors, and are usually decided on the strength of the contract and the evidence of what was taken.

Tax

The ITAT benches in Bengaluru hear many transfer pricing and cross-border tax appeals of multinational technology firms. GST notices, especially about input tax credit and export of services, are frequent for smaller firms too. See the tax lawyer in Bangalore guide.

Cyber crime

The city reports very high numbers of cyber fraud complaints, from part-time job scams and fake trading apps to "digital arrest" calls in which fraudsters pose as police or customs officers. No real agency arrests anyone over a video call. The cyber lawyer in Bangalore guide covers what to do.

Questions to put to a Bangalore advocate before you hire

  1. Which court, tribunal or office will decide my matter, and in which district?
  2. How often do you appear there, and who will attend on dates you cannot?
  3. Is there any deadline I must meet, such as a reply period or limitation?
  4. Do the revenue records or approvals need to be fixed before a case is filed?
  5. Can this be solved by a notice, mediation or a Lok Adalat?
  6. Apart from your fee, what court fee, stamp or expense should I expect?
  7. How long do matters like this usually take in Bengaluru?
  8. Which documents should I get now, and from which office?

More questions Bangalore residents ask

Is a B-khata property safe to buy in Bengaluru?

It carries extra risk, because a B-khata usually means the layout or building lacked full approvals. Banks may refuse loans. Check whether the property can be converted to A-khata under the current scheme and what it will cost before you commit.

Who issues khata now that the BBMP has been replaced?

Khata work within city limits is handled by the city corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority, largely through the online e-Khata system. Areas outside city limits follow the local panchayat or planning authority's system.

My owner is keeping most of my ten-month deposit. What can I do?

Ask in writing for an itemised list of deductions. If they are unreasonable, send a legal notice and, if needed, file a recovery claim. Keep move-in and move-out photographs and the transfer receipts.

Where do I complain against a builder in Bengaluru?

For a project registered with K-RERA, you can file before K-RERA for interest, refund or completion. The consumer commission is an alternative for compensation. The right choice depends on what you want.

Can my employer stop me from joining a competitor?

A post-employment non-compete is generally void under Indian contract law, but you must still respect confidentiality and any valid non-solicitation obligations.

Everyday local issues people bring to Bangalore lawyers

Traffic fines and vehicle cases

Bengaluru's traffic police issue a large number of electronic challans. Disputed fines can be challenged, and accident claims for injury or death go to the motor accident claims tribunal. Keep the FIR, medical records and income proof for a claim.

Water, sewage and building violations

Disputes with neighbours over setbacks, extra floors, drainage and water connections often involve the city corporation and the water supply board. A complaint to the authority with photographs and the sanctioned plan is the usual starting point, followed by a civil suit for an injunction if the violation directly affects you.

Noise, pets and community rules

Apartment associations sometimes pass rules about pets, parking, renting to bachelors or use of common areas. Rules must be within the bye-laws and the law; a blanket ban that breaks the law can be challenged.

Shops and small businesses

Shops and offices need registration under the state shops and commercial establishments law, a trade licence from the civic body, and food safety licences where food is sold. Signboards in Kannada are required under state rules, and notices about signage or trade licences are common reasons for small businesses to seek advice.

Senior citizens living alone

Many older residents whose children live abroad face disputes with tenants, caretakers or relatives over property. The maintenance tribunal under the senior citizens law and the police senior citizens' helpline can help, and transfers made on a promise of care can, in some cases, be set aside.

Karnataka's National Lok Adalats settle very large numbers of pending cheque bounce, bank, motor accident, family and property matters on a single day, and when a pending case is settled there, the court fee paid is refunded. The national legal aid helpline is 15100. Check whether you qualify with our legal aid eligibility checker.

How to verify a Bangalore advocate

Advocates practising in Karnataka are usually enrolled with the Bar Council of Karnataka, and their enrolment number generally reads KAR, then a serial number, then the year. Lawyers enrolled in other states can also appear in Bengaluru courts. The Advocates' Association, Bengaluru is the city's best known bar body, and separate associations exist at many court complexes and tribunals.

Karnataka passed a law in 2023 to protect advocates from violence in the course of their work. Complaints of misconduct against an advocate go to the Bar Council, not to a consumer forum. On Mara Vakil, a profile is published only after our team has checked the enrolment it gives.

Bangalore problems where early advice helps most

Joint development agreements

Landowners who give land to a builder for a share of flats should check the share, timelines, penalties and who holds the power of attorney before signing.

Incomplete apartment projects

Buyers in stalled projects can act together through K-RERA, and in insolvency through claims before the resolution professional.

Revenue layout sites

Sites in unapproved layouts are cheap for a reason. Without approvals, a khata, a loan and a resale all become difficult.

Family partition of old land

Ancestral land on the city's edge has often become very valuable, and daughters have equal coparcenary rights in Hindu family property.

Employee exits

Release forms, clawback of joining bonuses and stock option vesting are worth checking before you sign the exit papers.

Digital arrest calls

Callers posing as police or customs demand money to "clear your name". Hang up, keep the number and report it to 1930.

Lawyer fees in Bangalore

Fees in Bengaluru vary with the forum, the advocate's experience and the amount of work. Advocates in the magistrates' and family courts usually quote per stage or per hearing, or a fixed amount for a defined job such as a mutual divorce or a bail application. Property due diligence is often charged per property, and higher for land with a long revenue history. High Court, NCLT and arbitration work costs more, especially if a senior advocate is engaged to argue. Court fee in Karnataka depends on the type and value of the suit and is payable in addition to the lawyer's fee.

Our legal fees guide explains common fee structures. Clients pay Mara Vakil nothing, and we take no commission from the advocate.

How Mara Vakil connects you with a Bangalore advocate

Mara Vakil is a technology platform, not a law firm, and it does not give legal advice. When you describe your matter in the form, it is shown first to enrolment-checked advocates in Bengaluru and the surrounding districts who handle that type of case. Your phone number stays hidden. The advocate who accepts your request receives it and calls you to fix a consultation. If no one nearby accepts in time, your request is shown to advocates elsewhere in Karnataka, and later across India.

  1. Write a few lines. Mention the area or taluk, the police station or office involved, any date or notice, and what you want.
  2. An advocate accepts. Your number goes only to that advocate.
  3. Speak and decide. Discuss the plan and fee directly, and hire only if you are comfortable.

Legal help for particular groups in Bangalore

Older residents

Parents and grandparents who cannot support themselves can claim a monthly maintenance amount from children or relatives who will inherit from them, before the tribunal set up under the 2007 law for senior citizens, usually presided over by the Assistant Commissioner. The same law allows a gift or transfer to be declared void if it was made on the condition that the transferee would look after the elder and that promise was broken. The police also run a helpline for senior citizens in the city.

Migrant workers

Construction workers, domestic workers and delivery riders from other states make up a large part of Bengaluru's workforce. Unpaid wages can be taken to the labour department; injuries at work can lead to compensation claims; and gig and platform workers now have social security provisions under the labour codes, along with a separate state law for platform workers passed in 2025. A worker in industry is eligible for free legal aid.

Students and young professionals

People new to the city often run into deposit disputes, paying guest accommodation problems, job offer withdrawals and online scams. Keep every agreement and payment record, and do not hand over original certificates to an employer or landlord.

Women

Women are entitled to free legal aid whatever their income. Help is available through protection officers under the domestic violence law, the women's helpline, the one-stop centres and the police. The family court's mediation centre can help negotiate maintenance and custody where both sides are willing.

Wills, succession and partition in Bangalore

Unlike Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, Bengaluru was never a presidency town, so wills of Hindus here did not need probate even before the 2025 change that removed compulsory probate across the country. A registered will is not compulsory either, but registration with the Sub-Registrar makes it harder to challenge and easier to trace. For land, the heirs apply for mutation in the RTC with the death certificate, family tree and the will or consent of other heirs. For city property, the khata is transferred by the civic body on similar documents. Banks and companies may ask for a succession certificate or legal heir certificate where there is no nomination.

Partition suits are common on the city's edges, where land bought or inherited decades ago is now worth many times more. Daughters have equal rights as coparceners in Hindu joint family property under the 2005 amendment, and many old family arrangements are being reopened because of it. See the will lawyer in Bangalore guide.

A couple in Kengeri bought a site in a layout without full approvals. Their advocate first helps them obtain an e-Khata, then checks whether the layout qualifies for conversion to A-khata, works out the fee on the guidance value, and lists the documents needed before they apply.

"The builder handed over flats but never gave us the common areas."

Residents of a Whitefield complex find that the promoter has kept the clubhouse, the corpus fund and several flats in its own name. Their association's lawyer sends a notice, demands the deed of declaration and accounts, and files a complaint before K-RERA when the promoter does not respond.

"My landlord kept nine months of my deposit."

A software engineer moving out of an HSR Layout flat is told that painting, cleaning and "damages" have used up most of the deposit. She sends a legal notice with photographs taken at move-in, and the owner returns most of the money after a short negotiation.

"A video call said I was under digital arrest."

A retired professor in Jayanagar is told on a video call that his parcel contained drugs and that he must transfer money to "verify" his accounts. His daughter stops him, they call 1930 and file a complaint, and the CEN station traces the accounts used in similar frauds.

"Our grandfather's land in Hoskote is now worth crores."

Three siblings disagree over land their grandfather left near Hoskote. Their advocate explains that the case belongs to the Bengaluru Rural district courts, checks the RTC and mutation history, and suggests mediation before a partition suit.

Common myths about legal matters in Bangalore

Myth: A khata proves ownership.

A khata is a tax record. Ownership is shown by the title deeds and their history.

Myth: All "Bangalore" property cases go to city courts.

Land in Bengaluru Rural or Bengaluru South district is heard by the courts of that district.

Myth: The ten-month deposit is fixed by law.

It is a local custom, not a legal requirement. The amount is whatever the parties agree.

Myth: A non-compete stops you from joining any rival.

Post-employment non-competes are generally not enforceable in India, though confidentiality still binds you.

Myth: Police can arrest you on a video call.

No agency carries out "digital arrests". Such calls are frauds and should be reported to 1930.
