If the Aadhaar mobile number is active and the PAN details are correct, the application can be filed in a single sitting, and the Udyam registration number is usually generated immediately. The certificate is generally available within a day or two. Delays happen when the name on Aadhaar does not match the name on PAN, when the Aadhaar OTP does not arrive because the mobile number is not linked, or when an old Udyog Aadhaar or EM-II registration has to be migrated first.

You receive an e-certificate with a Udyam Registration Number and your classification as micro, small or medium. It can be downloaded from the Udyam portal at any time. Use it when applying for bank loans and credit guarantee schemes, government tenders, lower trademark and patent fees, and state industrial schemes. Share it with buyers so that the MSME delayed payment protections apply to your invoices.

No. Udyam registration does not expire and there is no renewal. However, the classification is updated based on income tax and GST data each year, so your category may change from micro to small if your investment or turnover grows. You should keep the details updated on the portal.
Under the MSMED Act, 2006, a buyer must pay a micro or small supplier within the agreed period, which cannot be more than 45 days, and within 15 days if there is no written agreement. Delayed payment attracts compound interest. The Income Tax Act also restricts the buyer's deduction for such delayed dues.
Yes. Retail and wholesale traders can register on the Udyam portal, but this is mainly to get priority sector lending from banks. Some other MSME benefits are meant for manufacturing and service enterprises, so it depends on what benefit you want.
Yes. The old Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum and EM-II registrations have been phased out, and businesses holding them were required to move to Udyam registration. If you still have only an old registration, you should register afresh on the Udyam portal using your existing details.
GST registration is not needed for Udyam itself. You provide your GSTIN only if your business is already required to have one under GST law. The PAN is required, though, and turnover figures are taken from income tax and GST records where available.
